Our vol.04 collection “IWTAKIBOO” is an ode to one of Africa's oldest cultures; Nubian.
 
The collection celebrates the ancient language & culture, with each tee telling the story of a different Nubian ritual or tale, while raising awareness for the cause & endangered language.
 
The “Iwtakiboo/Forgotten” Tee Story:
While languages all around the world evolve through cultural changes the Nubian language isn’t.The Nubian script went extinct when the area started turning into an Islamic majority and Arabic typography took over. While new terminologies and words are just being substituted with Arabic making not only the script extinct but also the spoken language endangered.
 
Nubian historian and linguist, Mokhtar Khalil Kabbara was the first scholar to introduce a book with the original alphabet of the Nubian language in the 90s to help Nubians write their currently only spoken language, that is now slowly dying out.Building on this precedent initiative, the Iwtakiboo tee features this display typeface that is inspired from Nubian Henna art using the original Nubian alphabet presented by Kabbara to shed light on the endangered language and extinct script.
